Michael Beard Joins the Better World Campaign

Release Date: April 22, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 22, 2009) – The Better World Campaign (BWC), which works to improve U.S.-UN relations, announced today the appointment of Michael Beard to the position of Deputy Director.

“Mike brings to the job a track record of success on Capitol Hill,” said Peter Yeo, BWC Executive Director and Vice President for Public Policy at the BWC’s sister organization, the United Nations Foundation. “We are thrilled to leverage his experience in the pursuit of BWC’s mission of supporting strong U.S.-UN relations, including returning the United States to good financial standing at the UN.”

“I am proud to be joining the Better World Campaign in its mission to promote a more robust relationship between the U.S. and the United Nations, particularly at a time when a growing number of the world’s greatest challenges require international cooperation to resolve,” Beard said. In his new role Beard is facilitating BWC’s overall portfolio, which includes grassroots advocacy, coalition-building and legislative outreach.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Beard worked for five years with Congresswoman Jackie Speier and the late Congressman Tom Lantos. As senior legislative assistant to Congresswoman Speier, he managed a diverse portfolio including foreign affairs, and work on the Financial Services and Oversight and Government Reform committees. Previously, Beard had worked with both the personal and Foreign Affairs Committee staffs in the office of Congressman Tom Lantos.

Beard holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, San Diego. He began his career in Washington as an intern in the office of Congressman Bob Filner.
