| On June 19, 2007, the Better World Campaign delivered a petition to Congress signed by over 35,000 people and 39 organizations calling for the U.S. to fully fund UN peacekeeping operations by making up the shortfall in the Administration's budget request. To read the petition, click here.
Congress responded. Since then, • The Senate voted for $245 million more for peacekeeping than the President requested. • The House approved $195 million increase. • Both House and Senate voted to lift an outdated "cap" on U.S. contributions to UN peacekeeping for next year. WRITE A LETTER TO YOUR SENATORS
On September 6, 2007, the Senate approved funding for the United Nations and UN peacekeeping in H.R. 2764, the State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations bill, which included $245 million for peacekeeping above the President's inadequate budget request.
63 Senators also voted to protect an important provision in the bill to lift an outdated cap on peacekeeping contributions to the UN. This means that—for the first time in a few years—the United States will not take a unilaterally-determined discount on all UN peacekeeping dues.
YOUR SENATOR VOTED AGAINST FULLY FUNDING UN PEACEKEEPING
