UN Peacekeeping in Africa
There are 15 current UN peacekeeping operations administered by the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping. The Better World Campaign has provided a brief background on each of these operations and has illustrated how UN peacekeeping operations can serve American foreign policy and security interest.
There are seven active peace operations in Africa:
- African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID)
- United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS)
- United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI)
- United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL)
- United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO)
- United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO)
- United Nations Interim Security Force in Abyei (UNISFA)
